    Frequently Asked Questions About Medicare

Clear, concise answers to help you navigate your Medicare journey.

What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare?

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is administered directly by the federal government and allows you to see any doctor in the U.S. that accepts Medicare. It does not cover prescription drugs or have an out of pocket maximum. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. It bundles Parts A, B, and usually D (prescriptions) into one plan, includes an out of pocket maximum for financial protection, and often provides extra benefits like dental and vision, but typically requires you to use a network of local providers.

When can I enroll in Medicare in Arkansas?

Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) begins 3 months before your 65th birthday month, includes your birthday month, and lasts for 3 months after. If you miss this window, you may face late enrollment penalties. You can also make changes to your coverage during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from October 15 to December 7 every year.

Do I have to pay for a Medicare consultation?

No. Our Medicare consultations, plan comparisons, and enrollment assistance services are provided at absolutely no cost to you. As licensed agents, we are compensated by the insurance carriers if you choose to enroll in a plan through us. There is never any obligation to enroll.

What are Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs)?

Medicare Savings Programs are state administered programs in Arkansas that help individuals with limited income and resources pay for some or all of their Medicare premiums, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. We can help you determine if you might qualify for these programs or the federal Extra Help program for prescription drugs.

Do Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans cover prescriptions?

No. Modern Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans do not include prescription drug coverage. If you choose Original Medicare and a Medigap plan, you will need to purchase a separate standalone Medicare Part D plan to cover your medications and avoid late enrollment penalties.

Can I change my Medicare Advantage Plan?

Yes. You can change your Medicare Advantage Plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from October 15 to December 7 each year. There is also a Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31 where you can switch to another Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare.

What does Medicare Part B cover?

Medicare Part B covers medical services and supplies that are medically necessary to treat your health condition. This includes outpatient care, preventive services, ambulance services, and durable medical equipment. It does not cover most dental care, eye exams, or hearing aids.

Are dental and vision covered by Original Medicare?

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) generally does not cover routine dental care, eye exams for glasses, or hearing aids. To get this coverage, seniors often enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that includes these extra benefits or purchase standalone dental and vision insurance.

What is the "Donut Hole" in Medicare Part D?

The "Donut Hole" refers to a coverage gap in Medicare Part D prescription drug plans. After you and your plan have spent a certain amount on covered drugs, you enter the gap and may have to pay a higher percentage of the drug costs. However, recent legislative changes have significantly reduced the out of pocket costs during this phase.
