Why Local Expertise Matters in Jacksonville

American Senior Benefits of Arkansas serves residents of Jacksonville from our office at 814 N University Ave in Little Rock, AR 72205. Consultations are available in person at our Little Rock office, by phone, or by video.

Medicare is highly local. The Medicare Advantage plans, provider networks, and prescription drug coverage available in Jacksonville can differ from those in other parts of Arkansas.

Little Rock Air Force Base sits next to Jacksonville, and if you're a military retiree or a retiree's spouse, you may be weighing Medicare alongside TRICARE or VA benefits. We help you understand how those pieces fit together, and we help you check provider participation with nearby hospitals in Sherwood, North Little Rock and Little Rock. Provider participation and plan networks can change and should be verified before enrollment.

    Our Jacksonville Medicare Services Include

    • Medicare Supplements (Medigap): Explaining how Plan G, Plan N and other standardized plans fit with Original Medicare.
    • Prescription Drug Plans (Part D): Reviewing your medication list against plan drug lists and your preferred local pharmacies.
    • Turning 65 Guidance: Step-by-step help with your Initial Enrollment Period, deadlines, and possible late enrollment penalties.
    • Medicare Advantage (Part C): Comparing HMO and PPO plan options available in Jacksonville and Pulaski County.

    Local Hospital Networks

We help you check whether your plan options include nearby facilities, including:

    • CHI St. Vincent North2215 Wildwood Ave., Sherwood
    • Baptist Health Medical Center–North Little Rock3333 Springhill Dr.

Some Jacksonville residents also see specialists in Little Rock, at UAMS Medical Center, CHI St. Vincent Infirmary, Arkansas Heart Hospital or Baptist Health–Little Rock. Read how to check if your hospital is in a plan's network.

VA care is a separate benefit from Medicare. Medicare generally doesn't pay for care at VA facilities, so veterans should contact the VA about VA benefits.

TRICARE For Life and Medicare: What LRAFB Retirees Should Know

If you retired from the military, or you are the spouse or survivor of a military retiree, TRICARE For Life (TFL) is the TRICARE coverage that works with Medicare. Here is how it works, according to TRICARE and Medicare:

    • You need both Part A and Part B. TFL is available if you are TRICARE eligible and have Medicare Part A and Part B. If you are eligible for premium-free Part A, retirees and their family members must also have Part B to keep TRICARE.
    • Coverage is automatic. There is no separate TFL enrollment. Coverage starts the first day you have both Part A and Part B. You do pay the Medicare Part B premium.
    • Medicare pays first. For services covered by both programs, Medicare pays its share first and TFL pays second. TRICARE says you generally have no out-of-pocket costs for services both Medicare and TRICARE cover.
    • Part D isn't required. TRICARE and Medicare both say you don't need a Medicare drug plan to keep TFL, because TRICARE has its own pharmacy benefit. If you do join a Medicare drug plan, it pays first and TRICARE pays second.
    • Watch the timing at 65. If you aren't already getting Social Security benefits, TRICARE advises signing up for Part A and Part B no later than two months before you turn 65 to avoid a break in TRICARE coverage.
    • Military clinics are space available. With TFL, care at military hospitals and clinics, such as the 19th Medical Group at Little Rock Air Force Base, is available only when space allows.

Because TFL works with Original Medicare, many retirees ask whether they need any other Medicare coverage. We can walk you through how Original Medicare, TFL and other options interact so you can decide for yourself. For TRICARE specific questions, contact the TFL contractor at 1-866-773-0404 (TTY 1-866-773-0405) or visit tricare.mil/tfl. This section is educational only; TRICARE and Medicare rules can change.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have an office in Jacksonville?

Our office is in Little Rock at 814 N University Ave. We work with Jacksonville residents in person at that office, by phone, or by video.

How does TRICARE For Life work with Medicare Part B?

TRICARE For Life requires Medicare Part A and Part B. For services both cover, Medicare pays first and TFL pays second, and retirees who are eligible for premium-free Part A must keep Part B to keep TRICARE.

Do I need a Medicare Part D plan if I have TRICARE For Life?

No. TRICARE and Medicare both say you don't need to join a Medicare drug plan to keep TFL, because TRICARE includes a pharmacy benefit. If you do join one, the Medicare drug plan pays first.

Can you check whether CHI St. Vincent North is in a plan's network?

Yes. We can help you look up provider participation for the plans we offer. Always confirm with the plan before enrolling, because networks can change.

    Is a Medicare review free?

Yes. Reviews are at no cost and with no obligation. We are compensated by insurance companies if you enroll in a plan we offer.
